    L'Berge Camo? Empty L'Berge Camo?

    Post by Camonut314 Wed Jul 30, 2014 7:45 pm

Found this just today in my local surplus store. Considering the pathetic selection of products they normally have I was pretty tickled to find this. It has identical cut to all of the other Kuwait 4-color DPM camo I have seen, but it is lighter in color (almost mint condition), and it has no tag. Could it be the Chinese company that was originally contracted to make the Kuwaiti camouflage simply had an overrun, or did they try to sell it to another country who just refused? Any thoughts?

The only real difference that I can spot are the REALLY cheap zippers marked "boy"

The pattern matches the one in this picture. If this is one of the Chinese made jackets there might be a small tab like label sewn into the left inside seam.  Tom

Thanks for the info, I took a look there after looking at the various threads in the Kuwait section, but to no avail.

As far as I know there were contract pieces from India after sanctions precluded France from supplying Saddam. I had a set that looked identical to this one, including the cheap zippers. My Indian made set had a size label and a "Made in India" label as well. I've not specifically seen one from China or South Korea, but I presume they did make some as well.

Thank you Gilles, I did use your website as a reference. However, even after scouring every surface of my garment with renewed vigor, I have yet to uncover any markings of any kind. The only thing I did find was a cigarette that was extinguished in a pen cap, located in the left breast pocket!

The three shirts, pants, and jackets I have all came from China while my two pile caps and two ponchos were made in Korea. I have a ball cap but need to look at it again to see where it was made. All have a LeBege label. I've never seen one actually made in France. I would like to see the India label if you still have one. Tom

The Indian set I had has moved on to a new home. I don't have pictures of the labels, sorry. However, I sent it to a friend of mine so I can probably get pictures. They labels weren't very interesting. IIRC in the jacket neck there was a small white size tag with the size written in red, then somewhere in the waist area there was a tag that simply said "Made in India". Similar for the trousers.

I had this set plus a matching L'Berge set and a second (slightly different colored) L'Berge jacket.

I thought L'Berge was a French company, but I don't have any idea where they had their stuff made. I don't recall there being "Made in China" in any of the three pieces, but maybe they were sliced out or I just didn't see them. Were all L'Berge items made in China or Korea?

BTW, the Indian set was inferior to my L'Berge sets in more ways than just the zipper. The cloth was poorer quality, the printing was also not as good, and the construction felt less solid.

I have some rare photos from the past. Most likely the same pattern as above, I know most uniforms made by Chinese or Korean manufacturer. Interestingly you see Kuwaiti officers sometime wear British desert dpm pattern at that time. L'Berge camos tend to have more yellowish tinge than the UK pattern.

I had a light colored desert DPM set in typical Iraqi cut, not L'Berge's French F1 design.  It's possible that is the uniform pictured above, not L'Berge, since I can see what looks to be an exposed button at the neck of one of the guys. The L'Berge type has hidden buttons. Unfortunately we can't see the pockets and that means it's uncertain either way.

    L'Berge Camo? CWRdbrE

This one looks either Korean or Chinese made, chest pockets are apparently visible. Buttons hidden in this uniform. The rank slide may come from same factory on Kuwaiti Officer's shoulders.
