Well, the CADPAT ARid have just arrived in the post, but i found something odd. Compare the the CADPAT WT, its different cutting, well, there are pocket on the forearm and heck a lot of velcro more than the TW nversion, one even comes with a price tag of CAD$69.99 but it took have tags and everything. Does it look real?

Looks legit to me from what I can see. Tags and material look good. Price tag could have come from someone trying to sell it. This pattern with the velcro on the arms was widely used in Afghanistan.

Yup, standard 2nd Model. Here is a rough description:

1st Model (up to 2007?) -> identical to 2nd Model TW (i.e. covered buttons)
2nd Model (2008 and later?) -> pockets on arms with velcro

Older issue kit, especially 2006 from what I've seen, had pockets tailor added to sleeves with various designs of velcro. Which effectively makes it a sorta 1.5 Model Smile because these pockets were added prior to issue but not during original manufacture.

is this real CADPAT Arid? Empty CADPAT AR Combat Coat

Post by edstorey Sat Jun 23, 2012 11:25 pm

There are actually four versions of the CADPAT AR Combat Coat (Shirt). The first has exposed buttons, the second has covered buttons, the third has covered buttons with sleeve pockets. There are also the official modifications in which sleeve pockets were added by removing the inner lining of the bottom bockets.

Do you have any photos of this first pattern? The arids were developed when the 2nd generation of CADPAT TW was already in wider circulation.

Yeah, I'd also like to see pics of the exposed button model. I have always suspected it existed, but as of yet I've seen no collectors with one and no pictures of it in use. I personally think it's unlikely the first type made had covered buttons, but that such a type was a trials piece and not standard issue.

The CADPAT AR garments manufactured in Pakistan are copies and are not issue items. I believe that I have an authentic exposed button CADPAT AR Coat and will dig it and send photos.

Would love to see evidence of a genuine exposed button example. As I said, I've always suspected one existed. However, like jimmyduncan23, I've only seen the Pakistan made ones (have two sets in fact). A good pic of the tag would be great. Fingers crossed for a date on that tag Wink

This if from the Canadian Forces Military Police Museum, they are my #1 go to place to identify Canadian Militaria.

"The original trials pattern of Arid Region Cadpat uniform was identical in cut to the OG 107 Combat and Cadpat TW uniforms but had a 4 colour brown and tan camouflage pattern. This was soon followed by a 3 colour camouflage pattern that was adopted in 2002. The first generation uniform had the same exposed pocket buttons as the Cadpat TW. A second generation uniform with a mixture of concealed buttons and velcro is now standard issue. In mid 2005, soldiers in Afghanistan began modifying their shirts by adding a small pocket on each sleeve. This modification became universal and has been approved for future issues." Smile

Sweet! Now I have to find one with the exposed buttons Smile

I've got a picture somewhere of the prototype. Because the shapes are identical to TW it looks a lot like a faded MARPAT desert cloth sewn into a Canadian pattern.

Ooo, I'd love to see that pic. Our local surplus shop had one of the exposed button types not so long ago. I went back to get it about an hour after I saw it and was told it was sold Rolling Eyes
