    Hi Guys.

This jacket already features in Bragging Rights, but for ease of ref: ,I thought I'd post it here too.

This has got to be the most versatile Jacket ever produced,I didn't realise until it was out of the wash, that it had a built in Sniper veil in the hood...cool feature.

Dunno what era this Jacket is,I guess 60's WinkSwiss Alpenflage Jacket. Dsc01829

Size 52, made in 1965 with original rubber backed cloth elbow reinforcements and intact sniper veil. A good find amongst the thousands of jackets out there on the market.

i agree this jacket is really well made. there's only 2 things i would say against it, first is the weight, with the backpack attached they got to weight at least 12 pounds, also is once it gets wet, it becomes a big problem to. i was lucky got a great deal in a huge lot, so i have a bunch laying around the house. the pattern is really neat as well.

    cheers

They get heavy when wet, but they're almost completely bomb-proof!

When these first hit the surplus market (1993 IIRC) I was wearing the trousers around at a trade show. A guy came up to me and demanded to know how I could wear such a horrible item. At first I thought he was some sort of anti-military zealot, but instead he was a former Swiss Army reservist and he equated the uniform with torture Smile

It's funny. I figured that within 10 years or so these uniforms would start to become difficult to obtain. But here we are about 17 years out and they are still found by the thousands in the supply side of the equation. It boggles the mind to think how big the Swiss warehouses were that stored all these uniforms for so long!

I was thinking about that the other day steve... why there's still so many available if you think they're obsolete for the past 25 years (almost). Specially because they don't have a large army... Also the TAZ90 is being used since than and they still haven't got to the market yet, they are still quite hard to find, so the swiss do a good job of keeping them...

    cheers

Somewhere on this forum I documented the variants of this uniform. There are three variations from the period of 1961? through the late 1980s. Confusing the issue are items that were remanufactured to the then current standards.

Easy G's is the 2nd Model and is easiest to identify by the rubberized cloth elbow and knee reinforcements. Gilles' is the 3rd Model and the nylon reinforcements are the easy feature to identify. The 1st Model is made from thin, smooth canvas (similar to other late 1950s European uniforms). I have documented 5 different versions, belonging to two general groups, of the camouflage pattern.

And yes, I am dumb enough to have full sets of each uniform and each camo variation Very Happy
