Modifed 6 Color Desert Uniform-Desert Storm

Post by nkomo on Fri Apr 24, 2009 6:34 pm

The next set is of the uncommon 6-color desert jacket. I have seen only three sets of these during my years of collecting. These were made up by USSF personnel involved in desert operations. This one was probably made up for Desert Shield/Desert Storm. I have picture in one of my books showing a SF soldier wearing this jacket and a tan Tactical Load Bearving Vest. This is the only picture I've come across of the modified 6-color in actual use.

This jacket has had what appears to be a USAF distress beacon/strobe light removed above the right hand pocket.

TOO COOL!!!!!!!!!! Sorry if I overdid it, but just could resist it. I have soft spot for Chocolate Chip (Six Colors DCU). It is uncommon to see Chocolate Chip DCU being modified. It displays very nicely with ABA vest. Just like a reference photo of SF guys I gave you. Smile

It'a long time since I'm looking for a modified 6 colors shirt and an ABA lbv.
You have two great items here.

Odd modification of a 6 colour shirt. The extra sleeve pockets are reinforced with gray cordura material. Anyway I don't think it is original, surely a later (airsofter?) addition.

    Tamas,
The 6-Color modifieds are incredibly rare to find. I have seen maybe a handful of these in all my years of collecting, so my knowledge about what types of modifications were done is limited. It doesn't fit into any category that I've seen before. However...that means nothing. One thing I do know is that the 6-Color mods were used for a very short time period. I've only seen pics of them used during the Desert Storm time period only. Right after DS....the 3-Color DCU became standard issue and the 6-Color was abandoned.

Although not Desert Storm-era modification, I linked this picture here, as it is a "choco chip" uniform, worn by Aghan Police. However I think it is better an ACU-style uniform made of choco chip pattern material.
