    Australian Multicams? Empty Australian Multicams?

Post by lammasulyon Sat Oct 20, 2012 9:28 am

a while ago defence force released a couple of images showing 7RAR battle group with multicam with DPCU style bunny ears, from what i read called Operational Combat Uniform.

Can anyone with inside info tell if its going to replace the DPCU or will the DPCUs remain as standard (for both ARA and ARES)

    thanks

I don't have inside information but economic logic suggests that domestic ARA and ARes units will still be outfitted with DPCU ... the pattern still works in Australia and works well. As the name suggests the Operational Combat Uniform should only be used for operational deployments where its deemed needed - you don't see multicams being used in Timor after all despite it being an operation.

Can you indicate as to where these 7 RAR pics might be?

From what I have gathered is that multicam uniforms are for "real operations" i.e. ,Afghanistan .
Timor and Solomon’s was given to reserves to free regular forces for afghan and iraq when it was in full swing.
Dpcu is being for the time being there is a multicam coloured dpcu uniform being developed but all word has died of it since the budget cuts.
Crye gear is to expensive to issue to soldiers in a non to very little danger enviroments.

Any word on ARES and TBAS? ive heard massive complaints that the older one (MBAS???) has heavy- at 14 kilos (WOW)

14 kilos is a bit too much, during boxing a 7 kilo weight vest was enough to make it seem like i was wearing 700 kilos

The pics i have seen were just computer images, it does look a bit different from normal multicam, could be it.
With mcbas it was good protection but as you said it was heavy as hell alot of back problems from it.
Tbas wont be in chocos for year now with cut backs, regs dont have it yet other than deployments
