I've been thinking recently about the lack of parachutes in the militaria world, why is it that people (to me) dont seem to collect these as much, or components like the harnesses etc? Without revealing too much i handle a fair few in my line of work and know that theyre not generally released on the surplus market but there are still examples out there, are people not interested at all or am i just looking in the wrong place?

Re: Parachutes...
Too expensive. Most parachutes I've seen for sale is being sold as parachute for practical uses, not as militaria item. Because of practical uses, they usually command for higher price.

Re: Parachutes...
I am in total agreement with Merc on this one. Parachutes are very expensive when you find them here in the US. I do have several parachutes in my personal collection that I have picked up over the years.
Two of mine are complete (parachute, harness, straps, etc) US made and are dated 1952 or 1953. I paid around $75 for the pair from a local surplus shop. They are incredibly heavy and hard to store.
The other one I have is a harness and pack that has had the parachute cut off and is used for training purposes only. It is also US made and is dated in the early 90's. I figure I will eventually use this one for a SF display.
