These shirts came in two types. Initially they had flags on the arms and no BELGIUM tape. Later (2004?) they made the shirts with BELGIUM tape and no flags. Soldiers were instructed to remove the flags from their old shirts and acquire BELGIUM tapes. But the Army did not have a large supply of BELGIUM tapes and so it took a while for soldiers to get them. Look for signs of the flags being removed. If you can read the date of the shirt that could also be helpful.

The loops were probably added by a soldier for a brassard, most likely for a UN mission.

Heh... well, let's see if he can see signs of the flags being removed first before declaring me smart Very Happy I was very, very actively collecting Belgian items at the time of the transition and tried to get BELGIAN tapes. Which is why I know there was a supply problem for a short period of time! My contact could get me body armor and LBVs easier than BELGIUM tapes!

Interesting. I would expect to see the stitch marks from the flags, but perhaps wearing and washing made them near invisible?

As far as I know there should never be a shirt without flags and without the BELGIUM tape. In theory a shirt should never have both, but before the change over soldiers on foreign missions private purchases BELGIUM tapes and put them on their shirts without removing the flags. I think it was this practice that got the Belgian Army to change it's uniform regulations.

The label is normal. It does not last very long. A few washings and some wear... blank!! I know because I had a brand new set and wore each piece a little and the labels are impossible to read but the items look very good. The cloth is excellent quality.
