Have anyone managed to aquire any uniforms, gear, bits or kit from the Brittish MoD's 'Personal Equipment and Common Operational Clothing' or PECOC trials in 2009?

I have been looking to find out what bits of kit survived, or rather evolved, from the trials and went into modern Brittish combat gear. Does anyone know?

And i have seen the odd equipment bag and helmet cover in the intermediate brown, ochre and sandy coloured DPM camo (that I guess got beaten and eaten by MTP) pop up on eBay, but have not seen them turn up on this forum.

Has anyone got some info or pieces to show off?

I've never seen any of the 4 color trials stuff for sale, but on eBay UK there is usually a piece or two of PECO available. Prices are always STUPIDLY high.

And sadly most of these items have had a craft knife taken to them, as they generally appear to be slashed or labels removed too Evil or Very Mad

Middle suit is one of the trial patterns halfway between temperate and desert. The label, button tapes and thread are all sand colour, showing that the suit was made from original material as opposed to just dying a desert suit. Also the cloth is rip stop and I have not encountered any 2 colour desert clothes in rip stop.

    Cool stuff!

The green shirt is very interesting. Someone took to heart the field dying of desert kit and tried to make a uniform out of the concept? Odd that the buttons are desert types.

The suit is not FR. I have a desert FR suit which is rip stop as you say but the non FR suits are plain weave.

Hi, thanks...I don't know if they were part of the PECOC trial or just a hybrid/UOR camo to combat the green zone in afghan. I don't think it went into mass production and I have only seen very few items about. The kit itself must have been dyed by the manufacturer and then produced the garments...can't understand why it is classed as Desert DP though as it isn't?! I don't suppose anybody knows the sand colour TRF under the Blue & White 216 Para Sigs TRF is?! SRS? I did have a better picture but it wouldn't upload!! Sorry!!

It could have been a unit purchase. As we know soldiers were field dying their kit already, so a unit deploying to the same area may have procured kit ahead of time. If it was a lower level purchase then they wouldn't do things like change the labels and contract numbers.

    Beautiful stuff.

That's a very interesting view Steve as my source said the unit he left, had a room full of this stuff, most of it new and it had been sat there for years. So I suppose it could have been a unit purchase from the contractor.... I didn't know at a unit level, they could contact the manufacturer direct and not via the MOD to produce a batch of kit!! Very interesting, I wonder what else is out there....

In the US military this sort of thing is possible. A Colonel calls up a manufacturer, hammers out a deal, and the deal gets done. Manufacturers are always interested in making more money, so I can easily see a manufacturer saying "sure we can do that, and here's what it will take to make it worth it to us".

When you think about it all the manufacturer did was run the cloth through a dye bath before assembly. Not a big deal and certainly within reason for a unit to afford. Having the uniform construction significantly altered, on the other hand, would likely be beyond what a unit could afford. Heck, it looks like they found a custom thread color wasn't in their budget, not to mention button color change! I can also see MoD being involved even if just to give it's blessing.

It really depends on how much flexibility there is within the British procurement system. I have no idea so maybe my theory holds no water.

BTW, I have a factory made overdyed US Army UCP jacket. So it seems the US and UK both played around with this. Very rare and in this case they did change the color of the velcro and (IIRC) the zipper. But otherwise bog standard jacket and labels.

Here's a comparison picture with a US ACU overdyed green before being constructed:

This one is mine and I am absolutely sure it wasn't overdyed after construction.
