BAF Smarties Collection Empty BAF Smarties Collection

Post by Tophe Sun Sep 18, 2011 8:22 am

Yes that's how we call the Belgian Air Force camo here in Belgium...

    It's quite complete now :
    Standard smarties, second version (seyntex)
    BAF Smarties Collection 110918011256951478759182

    Smocke vest, long version :
    BAF Smarties Collection 110918011221951478759179

    vest, first version (Preta)with armband.
If I remember, the patch come from "2nd Tactical Air Maintenance Sqn, 2nd Tactical Wing" :
    BAF Smarties Collection 110918011544951478759207

Frag vest with some pouches :
    BAF Smarties Collection 110918011622951478759209

    All together :
    BAF Smarties Collection 110918011713951478759213

I've got a helmet cover and a cap somewhere.

Well, I still need to find the short model of smocke, a better "Preta" vest and the full load bearing harness.
    It shouldn't be a problem...

Very nice items, Christophe. I was not aware there was a protective vest in this pattern.

That's a very nice lot of Belgian Flecktarn. What distinguishes the 1st model from the 2nd model shirts?

I didn't know too that there was a frag vest in this pattern until I see a picture of one.
And I learn last week that a freind was selling one so I couldn't miss it.
I don't know if I ever seen picture of soldier with it. I will check books.

The belgian smarties was used between '90 and early 2000 when they turn to standard jigsaw pattern.
The difference between the first and second version of the vest is the producer Preta v/s Seyntex.

Preta vest has sligthly different color and smaller dots. It's closer to original german flecktarn.

    Christophe,
Super nice collection of the Belgian Air Force flecktarn patterns. Great shirt, pants, Preta protective vest and outter Jackets/smocks. Did they ever wear a flecktarn boonie hat? I need one. Wink Bruce

Whoa! I can't believe I missed this thread until now!

I also did not know there is a frag vest in this pattern. That is something I'd be very, very, very interested in getting. Here's a list of everything I have:

    1. Field jacket (pictured as above)
    2. Experimental field jacket (same cut as the olive drab type)
    3. Large fleck jacket, trousers, and hat
    4. Small fleck jacket, trousers, and hat (IIRC the hats are not the same design)
    5. US style helmet cover (I can't remember which pattern, maybe both?)
    6. Load Bearing Vest (LBV)
    7. Small assault pack
    8. Large rucksack
    7. Various pieces of equipment to go on the LBV or body armor
    9. Rank slipons

Some new items after Ciney Militaria 10/2011 :

Smocke short model, next to the long one to see the difference
    BAF Smarties Collection 111031113013951478982522
Label is for the short, nothing (cutted) on the long one

    Michielsens 1991 trouser
    BAF Smarties Collection 111031113013951478982524

Seems to be an other pattern... Different from Preta and Seyntex :
That's the same black spot on the three pieces.

Is this type of Belgian camo rare or hard to come by as I have never seen any of it available in the UK before?
