    M51 OTAN Empty M51 OTAN

Post by Easy Gee Fri Apr 20, 2012 8:17 am

Hi Guys. Here's another French lid from my collection, this one has a "cammo" piece of material fitted onto the shell, this one came from a fellow collector, I have been unable to succesfully identify it, but he seems to think it is French , as it was fitted to another french lid, but he was vague on the details,so I fitted it onto this lid, either way I think it looks good on display...enjoy. Wink

Very nice! Gilles will probably be able to tell us more about this. I have no idea how common hand painted covers are for French troops.

Many thanks Steve, I am dubious about this piece of cloth but the guy who gave it to me is a non- BS kind of guy, it does appear to be hand painted, I initially thought it was a faded piece of camo cloth, but it appears to be painted on, here's some more pictures of the cloth, it's more or less a square of cloth, not a hood or anything along those lines;)

Hi James, thanks looking, I think your right it will not be so good in 50 years time which is a shame, this "cover" came from a fellow collector in my city who specialises in French Militaria, I think the truth of the matter is I will never be able to pin it down as a provable item, but I love it for all of it's mystique Very Happy
