    Not Quite ,

         0  is the largest  size ( that I know of; 00 ?  elephant ).

    *  The DPM smock above is a size 0 . It fits me great.  Can slip a fleece under it easily.   The Lizard field jacket barely fits me.   Strange, perhaps  sizes got a bit larger as time progressed...

Has anyone else noticed this ??

The size and cut were altered, the old uniforms are usually small and cut slim, the new uniforms are in line with international standards and the last batches now come in European sizes.

    Thanks for the info ...

One constant about older Portuguese patterns is that they are usually found in smaller sizes .

All my Portuguese pieces are sized 0 ; was wondering why older patterns are cut smaller than current issues..

Makes sense that current sizes and cuts are now in line with the rest of Europe..

Portuguese soldiers were very small size until about the 80's and 90's. Now young people are tall but before the 1974 revolution and the entry to the European Economic Community in 1986 the Portuguese infants did not had access to dairy foods and good health care, access to meat and fish was also very hard for most of the population so changes in health care and feeding that were felt in other countries in the 20's and 30's were only happening in Portugal in the 70's and 80's.

    I can certainly understand..

Very sad; This was common as well in much of Eastern Europe and parts of Southern Italy in those days. Sadly it is still happening in much of the world..

    Thanks for your input.

Yup, that is the same for Spain as well. They experienced a great famine and that stunted the growth of its people. Many of the Spanish uniforms I have would not fit on a well proportioned (i.e. not fat!) 12 year old American.

Since I'm here, I would like to request that those with knowledge of Portuguese camouflage uniforms (yes, I am looking right at you Pedro Pato and Sal Wink) start a new thread to document the different types. It is an area that I am seriously lacking knowledge in and would love to learn more.

BTW, those trousers above look like modern made French "All Arms" trousers, not Portuguese.

Firstly,  I cannot claim much knowledge of Portuguese camouflage patterns beside  some rudimentary ideas of a few.

This is an area that I neglected for a long time but working on changing that.

I am certain there is no more knowledgeable member  on this forum than Pedro P. when it comes to patterns of  his native country.

Checked the trousers in the first post.  They are definitely differences  from the shirt.    Received them with the shirt as a set.
Did notice a small difference, but shrugged it off as production variations.  Good eye, Steve, I looked at them more closely and discovered the label.

Early Dolman are notorious for their virtually non existing labeling.  The shirt posted with the trousers  only has a small size tag at the nape, as per usual.

Not sure that the trousers  are not Portuguese.   Could be a commercial copy.   The label is not helpful.
Pantalones mean pants in several languages, as does 100% cotton; camoufle , could be an abbreviation.       Only thing that puzzles me is M64...

I am thinking commercial Portuguese, but not certain.  Perhaps  one or more of our forum members  can shine a light

Will do a side by side comparison of the 2 pieces ASAP..

That´s interesting i´ve a similar pair of trousers with the same Label in Size L/52. I bought this pair of trousers on ebay Germany for 9,90 €.
The Seller had ca. 100 pieces and sold it as "French Foreign Legion" trousers.

The label confirms it... not Portuguese Smile First, notice it is a horizontal camo pattern. That's a huge tipoff right there. Then the fact that it is an exact copy of French Mle58 design, which is something that's been produced both commercially and for African contracts. It's also a pretty common Chinese label for such contract pieces. Lastly, I believe "Pantalón" is the Portuguese language description of trousers, not the French way of "Pantalons".

    Now, here's some possible insight...

Many years ago Sportsmans Guide was selling "Portuguese camouflage trousers". I bought one without examining the pictures very carefully. It arrived and was EXACTLY this cut and vertical pattern. I figured it was Chinese commercial stock and so I sent it back. I also remember speaking with someone in customer service asking them to not market them as Portuguese. They disappeared from the catalogue soon after, probably because they sold them all.

So my guess is the person you got this from thinks it is Portuguese because that is what he was told when either he, or the guy before him, bought it from Sportsmans Guide (or some other dealer).

Don't feel bad though. When I was trying to make sense of my Portuguese items a few months ago I discovered the "genuine issue" trousers I had were in fact commercially made in the Bundeswehr Moleskin cut. For more than 15 years I thought I had a complete, genuine set. Nope!

The trousers are not Portuguese Army pattern. The label is in French, my guess is that it may be a commercial model for export.

    And that is a wrap..

    Thanks guys good info.

Steve, thanks.  The scenario with the last seller not knowingly selling me a dummy sounds like the likely one.  Have got some really nice things from him with never a problem.

No big deal, the French pantalons  can go to someone who does not collect.   They don't fit me anyway..

Pedro, no hurries, but will certainly need  legit trousers...

Portuguese m/964 lizard trousers are very hard to find and very rare in big sizes, it took me a couple of years to find a nice pair for me but will keep an eye for that.
