    Redcam Empty Redcam

Post by Feindflug Mon Aug 10, 2009 3:08 pm

got this set as a present for my wedding Twisted Evil

Redcam, from my knowledge, was used as OpFor cam during the mid-80's until the early 90's mainly for SF playing Opfor.
I've only seen about 3 pics on the net as a proof of being used.
Beside this I was told, that some sections of NorForce (Pillbara Regt) used it in certain areas because of the redish colours of the soil around their AO. (But so far I have no proof of this and the source I got it from I wouldn't count as very reliable.

    But here's the pics, Enjoy

Very nice indeed - tell me, who wore this, you or the bride? Wink
Congratulations - now you can think about halving your collecting budget!

Just a small note, AFAIK Norforce and the Pilbara Regt are *separate* units - Norforce is responsible mainly for Northern Territory, Pilbara Regt for the top of Western Australia (North West) and responsible for North East Australia is 51 FNQR (Far North Queensland Regt). All units are reserve units but are tasked with the vital role of regional surveillance - the whole top end of Australia, being sparsely populated is a natural magnet for refugees, illegal fishermen and drug smugglers.

Norforce is noted for its high percentage of indigenous Australians (aborigines) within its ranks.

The development of enemy cam in Australia has had a potted history. I recall around the late '90s a memo coming out stating that 'soldiers will not shoot at others soldiers wearing the Auscam pattern' which, I presume, precipitated the development of the US type 3 colour desert or 'coffee stain' camo. However, since the introduction of desert Auscam these uniforms have also been used as OpFor uniforms back in Australia.

Although there is a scale of issue for 'enemy cams' for some units through the Q system, other units have still opted to purchase their own in bulk. A contract for 40 odd jungle tiger stripe cams was recently approved for a unit on the East coast and the designated OpFor element in a local unit recently obtained Desert tiger stripe uniforms as private purchase items.

Well, my bride would have killed me if I wore it on our wedding day in Brisbane.
Unfortunatly my collecting budget was good until the beginning of July this year when we signed the contract for buying our house.

Thank for pointing out my mix-up of NORFORCE and Pilbara Regt.

As for the recently 'intorduced' OpFor Trigerstrip cams (being indeed bulk purchased by about 4 units). From my knowledge these came from a guy in Brisbane. A Townsville unit bought a couple of them and named them something like 'SF advisor training cams' (can't remember the actual naming).
Another couple of sets went to 51st FNQR.
Haven't heared of the desert version being bought so far. Very Happy

@filupe, I think I have to apologize for completely confusing you.
I am indeed from Germany. But in January 2007 my mother-in-law joked about my missus and me getting married in Australia.......bad idea Twisted Evil saying something like this to an 'aussie-by-heart'.
So I started planning and on September 9th 2007 we got married in Brisbane Very Happy .

There is still alot about Australian Equipment and Uniforms to learn. So I'll probably 'abuse' you guys Twisted Evil geek

Never saw this type of camo before. It looks cool, I imagine it would be suitable in Vietnam because their ground is reddish. Thanks for sharing it!

yes, indeed I was lucky getting my hands on it. in 2006-2007 I saw only one set and one shirt being sold on evilbay. Form my memory the set was in very poor condition but sold for about 300 AUD and the shirt which was nice ended up costing the buyer nearly 350 AUD or so alone.
The Kepi was a tough fight but I won!!!! Very Happy

On another auction site there was a set available with tags dated at 2005. Form what I was told by the seller, the ADF requested all manufacturers of uniforms to reproduce sets they contracted before.
There were also 1st and 2nd pat DPDU's for sale with tags dated to 2005.
Don't know if this story was true or not.

Congrats!! I've been trying to get a set off a guy who thinks his is worth AUD 1000 +. That's about 3 times what I think it's worth, but he is convinced he's going to get this sort of price. Well... nothing I can do about it Sad

Ouch! That is just crazy. Years ago I passed up a set for AUD$150 because, in my mind, it was just a training cam and made on the cheap (notice only one shirt pocket). Am I kicking myself now? You bet!

You have NO idea how envious I am of you, mate. That's one of the neatest patterns I've come across. That'd work great where I live in the fall months for hunting.

Thanks guys, and neither did I, It was a real shock to see this date on these pants, seings as I think it was 95 and 99 the aussie DCUs were produced for OPFOR and by 2005 the outdated DPDUs were being used for this role. All I can think id the regional force surveillance units (RFSUs) requested it? I know as late as 2009 I saw 51 FNQR wearing the pants and kepis.
