    Visor Caps (German, Greek, etc)

Post by neoptolemus on Tue Oct 15, 2013 12:10 am

Bought these at an estate sale, and would like to have them ID'd.  This isn't really the area of my collection, but someone bought them all for me.

All help is appreciated.  Would also like to see estimated values too Very Happy

Everything came from a retired police officer's personal collection.  Some of the hats have stains or discolorations, and I think a few may be missing parts.

    Soviet:

    East German:

Warped, perhaps due to poor storage

    West German:

    Greek (?)

Soviet looks like an Army hat for the parade uniform of mechanized infantry. I just double checked and the colors are the same as that of police. The difference is badging, with this having an army badge.

East German hat is outside of my on hand knowledge (got books around here somewhere). But I can say the white cover is designed for officers who are performing traffic related duties at night. Makes them more visible to oncoming cars.

West German hat is pre-1975 Bavarian Police of some sort. Not sure if this is specific to Bereitschaftspolizei or Landespolizei or Grenzschutz or what. Could be general for all. Like what I said above, the white top is for traffic related duties.

No clue about the last hat you have, but it does look to be police of some sort.
