Certainly does look French, but Italy also used this type of helmet in WWI.

Very salty looking lid, it look's French but do not think it is, as there are no cut outs for the RF badge to attach, could be Belgian,Italian amongst others , but it not WW1 as they were produced in three parts, and this one discounting the quill on top is made in one stamping, a very interesting relic, I like it a lot;)

Finland, Romania, Poland, and Czechoslovakia also use surplus French helmets during the interwar years (and some beyond).

It might just be easier to list the countries that didn't use French helmets Very Happy

    Elmetto Metallico Leggero M15/16 (Lippmann)

    Italian, no question.

ETA: Actually, the Italians used a bunch of French helmets (over a million, according to Joseba's site) but made their own as well. You'd think they'd be more common, but not so much. A whole bunch get identified as French, I would bet. Nice score!

    Yep, that's it exactly.

Thanks, didn't even think about the Italians. I kinda thought they just used the French style.

I have seen this type of helmet in Italian museums.

Also saw  relics of these helmets ( and other  military  implements, such as  of cannons, and rifles  ) deeply  imbedded  in glaciers while hiking  the  Dolomiti mountain ranges  (Italian Alps) many years ago.

Italian  troops were locked in bitter  combat with Austrian, and German  troops in and near the glaciers of Northern Italy  during WW I.

    Rip....
