    Sahariana 70s Empty Sahariana 70s

Post by jose ramon Mon Dec 23, 2013 3:49 pm

    Hello:
I am not very versed in spanish uniforms.
I just found this sahariana from the 70s. One thing that struck me is the similarity with the US BDUs and soviet afgankas from the 80s, therefore, is a design ahead of its time.
Maybe I'm totally wrong, wrong army, wrong era, so: Can you identify it?
    Thanks in advance.

I've only seen one for sale and it was listed "Paraciadista".  I do not believe that is necessarily true.

Either way, this is a field jacket and so was probably modeled after the US M-51/M-65 type.  The Spanish have a history of using other country's designs to influence their own.

I did find one picture of this on my hard drive.  Fortunately I also saved the link where I found it (and it is still active):

The main thing to look for is big lower pockets. The standard uniform jacket has no lower pockets.

That design, as I told you in other forums have many simility with Spanish Legion patterns I have in my collection.

Looks quite similar to old Legion Parkas used in 70´s and also in very early 80´s.

The thind clothe it´s made in makes me think in a typical use for warm-hot Sahara just the use Legion had in 70´s and probably for daily use (Legion had it´s light green sarga uniform and used parkas only when nite came, windy storms, etc)

I cannot determinate the unit it comes from but I will put a testicle in a closing door  What a Face  (joking) its a Spanish Sahara pattern for sure.
