Going elsewhere again, this is basically most of the US  cut edge SSIs and related patches in my collection.

A few are pretty difficult to source these days.   Cut edge patches are early made patches, dating anywhere from pre WWII until about 1968.
There are a couple of WWII era  examples in the first photo, as well as some Vietnam era pieces.   All patches in the second photo are Vietnam era issue.

Here is the real score of the week.. Rarely seen current  Swiss Insignia ( except for the old style metal insignia used to obscure  name tape ) with KFOR patch.

glad the aussie patches arrived. just to note the aussie flag (ANF) is only worn on the left sleeve. under the rising sun biscuit. the right arm is for unit patches or deployment patches

OK, just a few more recent .

The first one portrays   US Navy  F14 squadrons still in service , 2004.  Al  were stationed at  NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach Va.

Scarce VF 84 desert deployment squadron patch.

This squadron was disestablished in 1995 . It's colors and traditions  passed to VF103 Sluggers who adopted the Jolly Rogers name and insignia.   Guess theirs was boring..

They  now operate F/A18F Super Hornets as VFA 103.

A few European patches .. The Austrian patches and the brassard come from the usual suspect..Thanks Alex,

Nice score Rip! Looks like your Spanish smock had the cloth version attached at some point. As far as I know this wasn't something they were supposed to do, but it was done often. At least according to the bits of thread I've seen on the ones I've had.

Nice Swiss stuff! I've been looking for some extras for a while. I know where I can get as many as I want, but the seller wants ridiculous amounts of money... so I keep looking Smile The name badge is a really awesome find. That's high up on my list as I have a jacket that has everything but.

    Steve,

All  but one of my M61 smocks has  thread remains from UA wings.. Very Happy

Common practice that was overlooked .   Made more sense to wear  cloth rather than metal on combat uniforms .
Reasonably certain metal wings were officially only worn with dress/ parade uniforms, but I bet it  did 'nt stop some from wearing them on their combat uniforms.

The Swiss pieces were a very unexpected but pleasant surprise.  Especially rank and nametape .   Recently got a current blouse that needed patching so it was just on time..
The older metal rank insignia are interesting and very cool, but it made sense to switch to cloth insignia ..

For sure the metal was for the dress uniform only. From what I remember the felt cloth badge was not supposed to go on the combat uniform either, only the rectangular one on OD cloth. But soldiers who earn their wings seem to want to wear them for some reason Very Happy

Having said that, I don't know if I've seen anybody quote 1960s regs to confirm if there was a definite policy against wearing them. Granted I don't have that many of the original jump uniform in confirmed 1960s date range, but the ones I do have don't seem to show the felt type in use on camo uniforms 1970s and 1980s. The felt ones were used on parade uniforms for sure.
