Re: Finnish images for REFERENCE
Here's something new:
M05 Gore-Tex, these suits are not standard issue (apparently except for peacekeepers in A-stan, who since 2013 are all issued a set), only a select few units have these at their disposal.
I remember an officer when I was in the army: he cursed the fact that due to silly military-legal restrictions the company that makes these can't sell them even to military personnel for service use. So he had to make do with the GI rainwear, like the rest of us.

Re: Finnish images for REFERENCE
Here's another special issue piece, the personal camo net, summer variation, made by Saab and incredibly difficult to acquire: these are not "personal issue" and any worn out pieces are required to be turned in by staff in exchange for new ones, if you lose or "lose" one it's bloody expensive too (I think it was around 200 euro). This naturally keeps these from ending up on eBay... This is not the most "remember, we are cool warriors" photo out there, but illustrates the construction quite well:
It's basically a simple square piece of mesh netting, but with armholes, a drawcord around the "neck" and ties so you can wear it like a cloak. The camo print is quite similar to M05. Naturally it's also quite multi functional: great to keep bugs out of your face and to mask peepholes in camoed OPs.
If anybody ever runs into one of these - take it!

No idea, I guess these were locally made by one or many of our old classics: Savotta, Olkainvalmiste, Satanahka etc.
The Finnish issue 8x30s seem to differ somewhat from the "original" Bundeswehr model, good stuff, I'd love to find a pair!

Indeed you do! I should dig out some photos of those, there's some interesting details about the design...

Re: Finnish images for REFERENCE
And heres a few more special pieces:
The M05 "Partiohaalari" (Patrol coverall) or simply "PaHa" (Evil, yes paha = evil in finnish, its a rather funny abbreviation). These first appeared in the 80's if I'm correct, the earlier versions were solid white for winter use. A simple one piece coverall with insulation against the cold. Everybody I know who has used one has loved it, really makes life simple in those quick "grab your s*** and run" moments when you don't have to fiddle about with trousers, belts etc. etc.
Here you can see a erikoisrajajääkäri (special border jaegers) unpacking one from his rucksack. Very unobtainable, but just so you know if you ever get lucky!
And here's a close up shot of the boonie hat and the Tiedustelijan liivi (Recon vest) chestrig, erikoisrajajääkäri again. Note the Partiosanomalaite comms-device (or simply ParSa = asparragus, we really have a good streak going with these abbreviations):

Re: Finnish images for REFERENCE
Crikey! How had I forgotten about this, the M91 "tank coverall", as issued to armour crews. These are worn over body armour, probably to prevent snagging.
Also note the traditional Nazi style mess tins (M/28 if I remember correctly), we still use these!

Re: Finnish images for REFERENCE
And m28's are quite rarely seen at surplus stores, the last one I saw was full of fungus and cost was 8 euro. Not too bad for your growing penicilin.
The smudge M91 coverall was on display at the Armous Museum in Parola (I think). In addition to mess tins, the leather belt is also still in use even though its a blast from the past tbh.

Re: Finnish images for REFERENCE
Anybody have pictures of the old vinyl rain jacket and trousers in use? I have a set and it takes a unique type of snap on rank. Funny, I have a snap on rank in the same vinyl material but it isn't designed for my jacket! Any information would be helpful.
