    Marker Balloon?

Post by Camonut314 on Sat Nov 01, 2014 3:03 pm

Ok, the instructions make this pretty clear what this is. However, exactly what it was used for, who used it, and it what time frame, I am totally clueless on. A quick internet search reveals that balloons such as this are used for survival in jungle warfare. This makes sense to me (I guess). Could that mean this is a bit of equipment issued predominantly to special forces? (I dare not use the ubiquitous label SAS). Or is this something more mundane like for artillery spotting? It came unopened in a lot of gear purchase in the most part for the Lightweight Combat Vest that came with it (definitely an SAS bit of gear!) as well as an Argie mag pouch. But again, I do not want to assume this is Falklands war issue, or even Gulf war issue.

    So, bottom line: HELP!

The instructions were printed for the The Ministry of Supply which was abolished in 1959 so you are looking at quite an old bit of kit!

Cool! Thanks for the info, so this could be from Malaya-era?
