this hat is in fact bigger than stated, fits more like 7+.

New and really dark color, it also has print screen offsetting so some shapes have lime around where they shouldn't.

I was told the ink stamp ( it's kind of rubbery like a heat transfer ) was for laundry. The stamp may or may not add value to the item but i guess to a collector it will.
I've been wanting ERDL forever and this matching ERDL shade set fell into my hand at the right price. I've been stung a few times with replica ERDL, i have a set now i'm gonna convert to vacation shorts Laughing

Here is cool green dominated ERDL in my collection. I'm posting it for Arch to see. Apparently it was used post-war (barely, probably used once or twice: Note at how unissued it look) even though it's late VN dated (1969). There wasn't cat eyes in Vietnam war.

Assuming it was used by Air Force special operations.

It has cat eyes on back of collar.

I just caught this something. Apparently it has Brown-Dominated on one of flaps of pockets! Guess factory was out of materials.

We called what is now referred to as "Erdel" marine jungles. Never heard the word Erdel untill in the 90s. This was not an issue uniform for 5SFG(A). Those that had them got them like I did, scrounged from the hair farce at Cam Rahn Bay or some other af base. I never saw them available for issue to us at CIF.
It is possible that some SOG teams used the marine jungles, I'll have to ask some of the guys at the convention in Sep. No idea what the 5SFG(A) stamp is for, but it is Not a laundry stamp! The hooch maids wrote our last 4 on all our stuff with a black broad tip felt tip marker.

Our field uniform was always Tiger Stripes. NO one in their right mind would wear something different so they stood out in the group. We stood out enuf since most of the Yards were 5" +/- shorter than us.

I notice that that fadded pants tag is dated 76. The VN period camo was made and used into the late 70s/erly 80s when it was replaced by the BDU camo. That later post war stuff had straight pockets instead of the slanted ones. I have several sets.

You want to buy some Erdels? I find them every once in a while in anything from well used to new, most are small & med sizes.
I think I have some laying around now? Have to look.

Just wondering, what would a fair condition set of ERDLs go for in US dollars about size large?

Well, I bled out 120 USD for a mint, green dominant, size Medium Long jacket and 100 USD for size large trousers, mint-ish condition, and that was 3 years ago. Brown dominant jacket was 160 USD.

But I've bid in auctions on eBay that went well over and beyond 200 Dollars US for good condition, and especially larger sized items.

    Mint condition, mmmmmmh...

    Owen, oh YES!

I couldn't believe my luck on the green variant either!

But with my brown dominant ERDL jacket and trousers I was not so fortunate. So even me, an all mint or near-mint collector, have been forced into 'good but issued condition'-territory. Dang.

But Tyler et al, try the good folks at:

    http://www.vintagetrends.com

They sometimes has fine examples, even in the Medium Long or Large range, for a respective price, though seldom in mint or near new condition.

I have 2 pairs of unissued lime pants 68 & 69 contracts, one set cost me £50 or $75'ish and the 2nd set with the special forces stamp was $15. It never fails me in finding items being sold as fishing gear or fancy dress stuff.

All hats are off to you Dr. Bravo_2_zero!

And yes, smaller or local bidding sites sometimes are a fantastic repository of high powered camo at unbelieveable prices!

And never underestimate the power of misspelling; try 'vitnam camoflage' every once in a great while, when looking for Vietnam era camouflage!
