ABU - ACU Question Empty ABU - ACU Question

    Post by AndrewA74 Tue Jun 09, 2009 10:41 pm

    Hello,
I was flipping through some in theatre (Qatar) AF publications and the pictures of the security personell are wearing ACU helmet covers, with the IBA. Now, I can see the MOLLE pouches (thier ABU), but what I can't figure out is whether the IBA cover is ABU or ACU? The pictures are hard to tell, does anyone know a definite answer? Thanks.

Up until VERY recently, the USAF's equipment from RFI (Rapid Fielding Initiative) was all ACU.

The IBA/IOTV cover should be ACU.

    Hope this helps...

Thank you. Do you know if they plan to make ABU equipment?

    No Problem
Yeah, I had heard they plan on making all USAF equipment in "ABU" pattern-you can go to www.rfigear.com and then look under "Air force" heading: they are fielding a bunch of ABU equipment, and have what LOOKS like a fairly nice ruck patterened on the "MALICE" design.

    Hope this helps

Yes it does help. It will be interesting to see how long before this becomes surplus and it hit the market.

Some of it is already in MCSS on post;I know Hurlburt and Eglin MCSS has a bunch in stock (I saw Helmet covers, and some pouches in addition to the ABU uniform and ECWS gear)

You, as C.A.P.(with your I.D. Card) should be able to use the AFEES/MCSS service. You can even go to AFEES (not sure if I spelled it correctly) online and order,or you can order from www. rfigear.com

Wouldnt mind getting my hands on the ABU ruck to check it out Smile

I don't think we can use the PX/BX service, because if I remember, the FAQ page they sent with my card said you had to have special permission to use that service.

That sux,Hell, I'd try anyway, especially if you are on base.

Go on a base in uniform and they usually dont even card you-I have seen CAP on Camp Shelby in uniform walk right up to pay,and never get asked for ID or anythng.

It should start showing up.especially on your larger Air Force Bases like Pope,Hurlburt/Eglin ect pretty soon if not already in some surplus and Army/Navy stores.

    Good luck in your hunt

Hehehe, I'll be on a Marine base for encampment but I won't have much of any downtime. When is Pope supposed to transition to the Army?
