Does anybody own one of the German Grey/Green type parkas that can be seen worn by a lot of Iraqi POWS? Reason for asking is does anyone know if they were ex Bundeswehr or some Iraqi made copies? Thanks

The Iraqis were certainly using ex Bundeswehr helmets as I have one that came back with someone's kit. The BW parkas were plentiful and cheap at the time, so it seems likely that these too were bought-in surplus.

Been told that they were German made but for export, slightly different to the issue ones and quality not half as good.

That is highly likely. Germany made stuff for Saddam's government in the 1980s before the embargoes were put into place. The items seem to have been made using existing BW designs, likely because it was cheaper and easier to do it that way. The most well known example from Germany is the two piece "snow camo" suit which was in standard Moleskin design with white color and three little springs of color. It was for the Baath Party and was not snow camo. I also had some Brushstroke camo pieces in Moleskin construction. All had Iraqi MOD tags in them.
So it is quite possible that the parkas the Iraqis had for Gulf War 1 were from Germany in BW cut, but I doubt they were surplus BW items. Certainly looks like it here:

The 2 I have both have German labels, not issue labels. Much lighter weight material and generally poorer construction apart from the heavy duty YKK zip. Press studs are smooth, again poor quality and the shoulder areas are lined with a shiny, rayon type material. No Iraqi Mod tags unfortunately.

Hi,
It seems that Iraqi's parka are shorter than BW ones.
Iraqi olive green jackets looked like West German Moleskin Jackets (" Moleskin Jacke Alte Art")

I've never seen how the Iraqis soldiers wore their webbings with the parka:
Did they have, over the parka, 1958 pattern gear, or 1937 Pattern Belt alongside chinese type chest rigs ?

Nice to see a label and that it has a date! The label is consistent with the types used by Bundeswehr contractors, so I guess this is more evidence the parkas could have come from a German source.
