if i can find more of the same hanger, and some thick gauge wire and mattress foam, i might be able to do a more convincing torso display lol

Topic has been cleaned up. This is a warning to everyone to keep this thread on track. A fellow collector has asked us for help on perfecting a display. I say lets all pitch in and give him some pointers if you have some. Very Happy

Actually....Andrew made an awesome display before and I'm hoping he'll chime in and give some pointers.

I will agree that mannequins are MUCHO expensive. That is why I am constantly looking at flea markets for mannequins in the $20 range. So far, I have one full sized mannequin and one torso mannequin. Both of these are fitted in SF uniforms and gear.

The dummy I have was dirt cheap , its blow molded and was about $60 shipped from ebay , they came in white and black and I think the black was a little cheaper , it is very light and easy to take apart and put together .

i;m trying to stay below say, $10 per dummy/torso...Very Happy lol i;ve a sketch of how i want the torso displays done up in my bed room, when i can actually do that.....as in, maybe Xmas gift ideas!? *HINT* lol. other plan is to use Bond007's idea of shelf/closet bar direct mount to the wall on one side of my room, and make "hangman" torsos kind of like the one shown, but better formed...it needs to also hold up the relatively heavyweight LC equipment...(some of my plastic hangers BROKE from them...lol)

LOL......i DO have some pretty small uniforms..but yeah, i;d rather have normal human MALE torsos/dummies lol....i do have a mini closet thats just about full of militaria and uniforms, and thats without the stuffed torso one..so some creativity is needed for a proper display thats not frittered away behind a door.

OK, I made a really, really cheap (free) display. You take a plastic swimsuit model torso (they normally come with the swimsuit), crush the chest area. Take a pair of trousers and pin them (with safety pins) to the plastic form. You also need to get a belt and put on the trousers and pull it tight! You get a wooden suit hangar and put your uniform top on it and around the form. Thus, you will have two hangars. I hung mine on the wall with a nail. You must puncture the thin, flimsy, plastic hangar of the form on the nail and hang the wooden suit hangar on the nail. If you do it right, it will support at least an Interceptor Body Armor with soft armor. Then, take a styrofoam wig head and put it down the collar of the shirt, so it looks like there is a head. This will not support much weight, but at least a boonie. This is how my display looked:

    Enjoy.
