Re: question about DDR jacket
It looks like the last issue UTV uniform , they were issued in very small numbers before the end of the DRR and have a loop with button on the arm for sleeve insignia , they were made in the BDU style just like yours .
So yes I think it is a real shirt .
Here is a picture of mine

Re: question about DDR jacket
The UTV uniform was also supposed to be used with the UTV equipment, such as camouflage cloth/webbing and camouflage pouches. You should be able to find most of the stuff fairly easily, though for some reason the rank can be expensive (it should not be!).

Re: question about DDR jacket
Just a small note: as I know "UTV" stands only for the equipment (Universale TrageVorrichtung), which is quite a rough copy of the british M37/M44 gear (at least in my eyes). Therefore I don't think we can call the uniform "UTV" itself. However I don't think it had any official designation, as it was never supplied to the troops as I know.

Re: question about DDR jacket
I have seen pics of the uniform issued , mostly to officers , and in very small numbers , We use UTV to describe it ,as it was supposed to be issued with the UTV web set , But you are right Tamas , it is not an official designation , Whermacht awards has pictures of the uniform being worn .

Re: question about DDR jacket
Thank you for the info Steve! I thought it was never issued as it is not mentioned in Keubke's book (published in 1990), but maybe he just didn't have the info.

Re: question about DDR jacket
As an aside, DDR towards the end, late 80s. I've mentioned this before, they had a catalog for export and you could literally order any /all of the UTV stuff. I had a full set of everything, they had entrenching tools combat vests etc etc rain camo. INterestingly as it was for export the buckle on the field gear was pebble finish with NO ddr logo.
Chris
HI quality stuff too.

Re: question about DDR jacket
They did this BEFORE the collapse? Well, talk about handwriting on the wall
And take it for what it's worth... I've had several used sets of the last model (aka "UTV") uniform in my hands.

Re: question about DDR jacket
Odd enough, I checked two "UTV" (OK. we can call itthat way if you wish :-) sets and neither of them consisted year's of manufacture code, or at least I couldn't find it. Did you ever find date in "UTV" suits?
