    Saudi M1 Helmet cover Dsc01314

    Hi Guy's.

This I belive to be a Saudi M1 Helmet cover, there are no markings and it is made from a thinner/cheaper material than US type covers.

Can anyone confirm this be Saudi ( or other Middle East country)

    Thanks in adavance.

    Gary cheers

Hmmm... I can't say. Helmet covers, however, are not a common thing for Middle Eastern steel helmets. They tend to just go with paint. I also don't know if the Saudies had 2 piece helmets during the 80s or 90s.

I have a Saudi cover very similar to this, but there is a little blue in the pattern. Porobably Saudi though.

Looks like that wear mark around the front was from the helmet liner chin strap?

Hi Steve, yeah these marks have always confused me, they do not seem to line up with the rim of the lid, or anything else for that matter, but you might be be on to somthing here, I never thought of liner chinstraps causing this kind of rubbing.

In all my years of experience of M1 lids , I've never seen this form of marking/rubbing before...complete mystery really, but that just adds more to this cover in my opinion Wink

Rich ,there seems to be great divide on this subject, I originally posted this one on USMF, the debate continues I believe.........

To this day I'm am trying to get concrete confirmation of this Bright Star cover usage Exclamation

I'm with you on this theory too Wink

Yeah, there has been some confirmation over the years these might have been issued for US usage, I recall a few years back there was a US based collector who said he had stamped versions..like you can't remember where now!!!

The guy I got the 3rd legion f1 off recently, had a lid for sale with one of these covers on it,in the description he claimed it was Iraqi Suspect

Don't forget that US supplied many things to Iraq in the 80's during Iran/Iraq border war. Those covers could be part of it.

The most obvious difference between both covers is the large seam/join running down the side of one of the covers.
