    Great pictures! I would also like to know why the guy has his helmet red taped. Could it be on a training to be him the "VIP", who must be brought save from one point to another?

    If I can add my 2 cents.....it looks like he is a PJI (Parachute Jump Instructor) or whatever the US/USMC equivalent is. The red tape will serve as a marker for those who jump after him so that they can all land together and gives them something to steer towards. If you look you can see they are wearing chutes and reserves.

    Very possible, but the Jump Master would be last to exit the bird after he has ensured the chalk has safely exited.

    My guess would be that he is a "five jump chump" , newly graduated from the Airborne school, and this is his first jump with the unit since returning.

    In all probability he's the mission's pathfinder. It is common for pathfinders to have their helmets or caps in red to easily distinguish them from other paratroopers during the reorganization phase of an airborne assault.

    Besides marking the drop zone, pathfinders are responsible for coordinating and assisting the reorganization just after the jump and the red helmet is used with this purpose in mind and not as a concealment aid. That's why it is not camouflaged like the others.

    Hey, I notice some of these pics could be more modern than the rest (as in of people who could still be out there) could you please persec these pics for those in them that may still be in harms way?

    I normally would, but the reason I didnt PERSEC them already is because A: I have a couple of thousand shots and its a pain to PERSEC them all, and B: All of them were found on Militaryphotos.net and that site is MUCH more heavily trafficked than here, so the pics are already publicly available

    Also, if I went back and PERSEC'd all the pics and reuploaded them, the links would break and I would have to go through again and find the pics 1 by 1 and post them up again

    One thing I like about this thread is that it shows a wide variety of different painted helmets. Contrary to popular belief, not every helmet is maxed out with velcro patches like you see on Ebay. Laughing
