Falklands Paratrooper Helmets. Empty Falklands Paratrooper Helmets.

Early prototype ballistic and WW2 type both worn during the conflict--

    Airborne helmets.

During the conflict the old WW2 type steel helmet served alongside limited amounts of the new lightweight helmet and I am very luck enough to have examples of 2 original unmessed with helmets of the period.

THe steel helmet has been fitted with a DPM hood from a combat smock as at the time there was no cammo cover available. Also at one time but missing when i got the helmet there appears to have been a scrim scarf/net fitted over the hood and secured with black duct tape(I have never attempted to remove the liner to inspect the inside of the helmet).

Lightweight airborne helmet-contrary to popular belief these werent made of KEVLAR but of a lightweight ballistic material and while very light offered very little in the way of ballistic protection. Of interest is the early trials leather chin/neck strap and the white chamois forehead/sweat leather unlike later types which were black.

Pride and joy of my collection these 2 and very chuffed to own them :good :good

BTW. There is a HELMET THREAD in the GENERAL DISCUSSION section,it would be great if we could all post our lids there too,and then we can build up a "database" of lids for reserch purposes, cheers Gary Wink

Believe it or not i collect on a VERY VERY Limited/Tight budget but have been lucky years ago to pick most of these up when prices were ok not like the stupid prices stuff sells for these days especially on Ebay.

Will check out the helmet database when i get a chance.
