    Hi Guys.
I know this is a West German Beret, but I am intrigued about what cap badge would have been present.
So Can anyone confirm that this is/was a Signals Beret, I have tried to take a close up shot of the area, where a cap badge would have been, so hopefully this will assist with the ID.

    Many thanks in advance .

I'm going to hijack your thread for a second. What is the "A" stamp on the tag? It's on an excellent set of Flecktarn (gortex?) jacket and pants that I have.

Hijack away Mate. Dunno what the A is for , my guess is it is a stores disposal marked item , and marked with the A Question

The Camo below the Beret is French CCE, not German..sorry this was misleading I guess Wink

I made the blind guess that it was some form of disposal or surplus marking. It's similar to how American gear is marked by DRMO (Defense Reutilization Marketing Office)(new name now but it doesn't come to mind).

Here it is on the tag of the Flecktarn jacket. Has the same stamp on the pants tag.

I think A is for "Ausgemustert" (invalided out).

The "A" means the item has been turned in and is to be surplussed or destroyed. The Canadian military uses a "D" in the same way. The Germans almost always put it over the label, but sometimes it is in odd places. For boots the Germans put two puncture marks somewhere along the top edge of the upper portion of the boot or at the top of the tongue.

The purpose of this is to prevent soldiers from turning in items which have already been turned in once. It's an accountability thing from what I understand.
