Re: Spanish Cetme Mag Pouches
Hi Panzer, those pouches are Spanish for sure. Most common it´s said is they used by Spanish Marines. But it´s more than sure that it was in use for some more units.
I know of that camo the belt, the Y suspenders and the pistol holster.
Good adquisition, rares to find even in Spain. They are so expensive when found.

Re: Spanish Cetme Mag Pouches
Hi Panzer. I have no notice about uniforms made of that pattern at all.
The most similar to that was a poncho liner, and some other items like holsters, etc in such a similar pattern but not the same.
Cheers

Re: Spanish Cetme Mag Pouches
Once again, I am compelled to call Steve what he really is... a bastard I've been looking for those for eons, and here you go and get them cheap without even knowing what you have. Life is not fair and I'm going to whine and complain until it becomes fair!
There's a pistol holster in this pattern as well as belt suspenders (like H-Straps but not connected to each other). I suspect a pistol belt as well, not sure about any other items.
As it so happens, I have a spare set of the suspenders I was going to put them up on eBay in a few weeks, however I can put them in your pile of other goodies if you like. Email me if interested.
Solideo, take a look at this picture you posted VERY carefully...
It appears to be the same equipment. Note especially the fact that the belt suspenders have two support points on the belt. I don't know of other Spanish suspenders like this. They also are pretty clearly camouflage, and again I don't know of anything from this time period that is in camouflage *other* than this stuff. What do you think?

I have no real explanation, but it was usual that Spanish military men had their families living with them in Africa. Those children used to live most their lives among legionnaires, parachoutistes or whatever. Si I suppose the child was son of any military of the unit.
I have often seen small reduced Legion uniforms for children from that era. But I am just supposing.

Re: Spanish Cetme Mag Pouches
Solideo,
Yes, that looks like it!!! Very nice to finally have confirmed pictures of these in use.
Philip,
Every unit needs a mascot Either that or it is the famous Colonel Pequeño. He might be small, but he can throw a big tantrum!
And yes, everybody needs Spanish stuff. However, only after I have at least one of everything

Re: Spanish Cetme Mag Pouches
Bond, it´s for sure that here master of Spanish militaria is Steven "the great", but be sure I will break my ass (not in the sexual sense) for getting you those pouches.
Calling a child "mascot" is not so correct , in Legion traditions was usually to have lots of differents mascots: Monkeys, goats, sheeps, dogs, wild boars, parrots...even bears.
Children were normally sons of military who lived by Legion or other units quarters, since they were born all their lifes went into the military tradition of the units and their family was the complete unit. Until a little time existed the called "poblados legionarios", they were like residentials were legionnaires families lived in humble houses. In entrance there were armed legionnaires to protect them.
Most of those children became legionnaires in early ages and most of the girls married to legionnaires aswell, because their life was Legion.
Even today some fathers who joined Legion or in intimate relationship with catholic congregations of Spanish Legion Christ (called Cristo de la Buena Muerte "Christ of Good Death) use to dress their sons in special acts with the uniform
There is a very special relation between that Christ and Legion because since fundation the Legion creed demmanded to die in combat. Millan Astray the founder of Legion used Bushido to create that creed. So in that Spain of so long ago soldier who was sure to die needed to think there was something more after death and a special relation to the Legion Christ was created. In all Legion acts, Christ and our deads are honoured for that.
Sorry I wrote so much about nonsenses, but sometime history of uniformity needs to understand before the way of living of those who wear it. Death myst explains for example traditional open shirts of legionnaires, the tradition said that shirt should be open because such a noble lady who is Death might never find a closed door (closed shirt)
Cheers

Re: Spanish Cetme Mag Pouches
Fantastic pictures! I've seen pictures of Legion goat mascots before, but never with a uniformed monkey on its back. A saying in English is, "well, that's something you don't see every day!"
I was making a joke about the child being a mascot, of course, however I enjoyed learning about the tradition the Legion has for its sons. Very unique.

I Have thousands of photos of Spanish Legion, I will put some of them supporting any interesting question which demands them.
I understood calling mascot a children was not serious, I even don´t know if I am understood when kidding about something (these are the problems of using different languages)

Re: Spanish Cetme Mag Pouches
I have found a place where you can buy those pouches and the suspenders
http://www.soldiers.es/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=204_375_377&products_id=5454
http://www.soldiers.es/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=204_375_377&products_id=5453
It´s a serious place. You can buy online there.
One mistery less.
Other place to buy Spanish militaria at good prices is www.todocoleccion.net
and it´s English version http://www.allcollection.net/ . Those webs are not complitely the same because the seller of Spanish version can afford the option of selling in only the Spanish web or both.
If any of you have interest in getting anything which seller does not want to send to foreign countries just contact me and I can contact the seller.
