They gave me such bad shin splints at the time 
I was so glad once the initial cadre was over and we could wear German para boots in the field and for phizz. I actually preferred boots, DMS and puttees !
They have to be rare as everyone who could, ended up binning them as fast as they possibly could !

Oh I had the first pattern which I bought and used, I got issued the ones pictured here. The first patten looked like the American jungle boot but without the ankle protectors. They were much more a smarter looking boot and a far better fit than the mk2 and would polish up better.
I remember doing my BFT in the mk1 boots as I forgot my silver shadows, still came first by 5 mins !! Stencil , York. I still have my ITB shirt with SA80 embroidered on it, i bet that's a collectors item too !

Try doing an Assault Course in a pair of these that are a size two small, the Strensall one actually
