Cuban Officer's uniform captured on Grenada. It may look Soviet in design, but this is Cuban manufactured. Notice the short sleeves.

Is it possible that the Soviets stole the design from Cuba? Really, looking at the shirt, it looks like a militarized version of the traditional... Cuban shirt. You know, the kind that barbers and guys in tropical nightclubs wear (I happen to think that they're pretty snazzy, but then again-- I really like bush jackets-- I have some weird Jet-Set holdovers from childhood).

I saw a book on 'worldwide' Soviet uniforms, how Moscow stationed their military advisors on Cuba in the 1960's with the most embarrasing school boy/ boy scout attire, with real short shorts, shortsleeve shirts not unlike yours, and a painfully cute little sunhat. Must try and find that photo, in the meantime; kudos to you on a fine a special uniform!

Like saltefanden said, the Soviets were the first to come up with the summer officer uniform. However, this type guayabera is probably a totally Cuban thing.
