Re: Yet another BGS Jacket.
You keep buying these because they are FANTASTICALLY well made and one of the greatest patterns out there!
This come, of course, from a fellow afflictee...
Great catch, Sir! Let no one feel bad for bagging yet another one!

Re: Yet another BGS Jacket.
That is a really nice one! Completely intact and fairly strong colors.
I have the same affliction I've probably had more than 2 dozen of these over the years, and yet I keep buying them. I don't know why since all I do is sell/trade them.
I recently dated the addition of the arc to about 1972. I had previously thought it could have been as early as 1970. Which means this jacket, like just about every other one I've had, was retrofitted to have the arc on it.

Re: Yet another BGS Jacket.
Thanks Steve.
I must have not far off 10 now so MUST get rid and keep 2-3 of them-this one being one of the keepers.

Re: Yet another BGS Jacket.
There are three basic types.
1967 with post style snaps. No other differences as far as I can tell. I think it's one contractor, as many others have standard ring snaps.
1967-1971ish has narrow rank loops.
1971ish-1975 has wide rank loops. No other differences I am aware of.
The parkas come in two styles as well. Different construction in the armpits and different types of reinforcements for the flashlight buttons on the front.
All extremely minor, trivial differences.

Re: Yet another BGS Jacket.
Awwwh! Just went ahead and bought a(nother) BGS zeltbahn in mint condition, with two already in my clutches...
I too seem to need to control my impulses, before aquiring yet more of this great pattern!
But I 'need' also to look for the earlier models, that Steve described, too. Though they seem to be in a price range all of their own!
I did bag two, geniune and stamped BGS field caps, in relatively good nick - very happy with those as I had none already!
