Taken on the 13 May. Brand new and out of the box, this gear is awaiting its owner to get back for issue. First impressions were good, it has a better shape and size to some of the other hats that we have had. It is bigger than the standard Jhat. Still have the bizarre internal half pocket, and rather large label.

Re: MCU Boonie Hat
Yes and has a slighty oblong shape and slooping top part. From the USMC boonie hats than I use to own it's design is very similar. First impressions were good, unlike the camo cricket hat we had.

Re: MCU Boonie Hat
Just had another look and compared the MCU boonie with a DPM Wide Brim. The width of the MCU brim from the hat to the edge is the same as a Wide Brim DPM, what makes it different is the shape, so it sits better. So there will probably be those who dont like the width aspect.

Re: MCU Boonie Hat
Not yet, mid June for most people. From my short play with the above pictured hat it is lighter, comfort TBC.

Re: MCU Boonie Hat
Just saw a pic in soldier 5, there is 3 distinct pattern variations. Will they be issue or variations in the sizing gear?

Re: MCU Boonie Hat
Do you mean the pictures of WO1 H and Major W wearing the gear? They are now huge arse posters around camp.
From what Ive seen of the sizing stock and the unpackaged box of issue gear, the pattern is the same, its the way thr colours have taken to the different types of materail, the Event wet weather gear has a browner tinge and the unifrom has a greener tinge, the jacket not as green.

Re: MCU Boonie Hat
Got my box yesterday I can confirm the brim width on the MCU boonie hat is 60mm wide, a ripstop Widebrim JH is 75mm and a ripstop Jhat is 60mm. All measurements were made from the outside of the hat where the seam on the hat meets the brim. All hats are size M.
A few posts back I mentioned the MCU brim width being the same as a wide brim, that wide brim was my ET hat from 2000, which has a 60mm wide brim, somewhere along the way the specs for the wide brim have increased.

Re: MCU Boonie Hat
Made in NZ.
Side profile, slight slop towards fron of hat.
Inside of hat, behind label is a pocket of sorts, what its for is not clear.
Chin cord and barrel lock, the cord is almost Foliage in colour.
Vent holes.

Yep but I don't think I have the right to use their images without some art work, just my opinion.
