French Tan Foreign Leigion type Kepi,dated 1956 and made by SAPHI

Any ideas please,is it a French item made in South Africa? Has a detachable cloth neck flap held in place either side by plain brown chinstrap buttons and a pop stud in the centre.

WIthout pics it's hard to say, does it have rather large metalic mesh screens on each side? It sounds like what was used in the 60s for Commando forces.Now of note, the Commando forces were reserve type troops set up in towns throughout the country and a holdover from the old boer war commandos. Not special forces type commandos.
