I found this modified Chocolate Chip blouse the other day! I wouldnt have grabbed it off the thrift store rack if it wasnt for the black Velcro flag patches. Then i saw the bottom pockets were rearranged. From what ive seen on this board and have heard, these are extremely hard to find. Can this be dated using the NSN stock numbers listed on the tags? ive never figured out how to read these things! I believe its of period because of the black Velcro and does not have more modern tan velcro. This was found at a store very close to Dam Neck base, which is were DEVGRU is located.... And does anyone have a photo or two of these modded uniforms in use? ive heard there are virtually no photos out there but i beleive i saw someone say they had one. Would love to see it! So here is the shirt...

Okay looks like the DLA100-83-C-0574 Contract number points to a 1983 version.... So if this shirt was made in 1983 does that mean it could have been in use pre Desert Shield/Storm? What operations did we have in that time frame where this could have been used? And were there older, say 1983 shirts, still in the supply system when DShield and DStorm rolled around?

These DBDUs (not the experimental ones) were produced as early as 1981.
I have about 100 sets that were used in ODS in my collection, all dated between 1981 and 1990 (some pants even 1991).
Most units deploying from CONUS were issued whatever was available from supply and depots.
Obviously with 500.000 US service members deployed, new contracts were signed in 1990 to cover DOD requirements. All 1990 contract uniforms were type 3 for the tops and type 2 for the pants.

While this may be a mod that occurred during ODS or maybe even Somalia, Black Velcro was used into OIF and OEF. Based on the location of the Velcro I suspect it was for aviator rank. If this is not so, what might be another purpose? Tom

You are right, it looks like the velcro is positioned for AF rank. But the again, would an aviator wear modified shirt?
Maybe someone just added the velcro later...

I'm not disagreeing with either of you, but there have also been SEAL modified jackets that have the velcro on the shoulders like that as well.

Yes,definitely black or OD velcros were used around the DS period.Tan velcro was non existent at that time and only appeared around the OEF period.
