DPM MK3 Ospreys
Having stumbled across theses vests (I trawl the seller frequently for obvious reasons) I came to IACMC to see if anyone had posted an opinion – then I went directly back and ordered!! So thanks for the assistance guys.
Although I am new to posting on the forum I have been observing and collecting for some while. My collecting interests are 80s period British Army uniforms and kit (I served in Inf 82-88) and British trials kit of any era. I have a respectable sized collection of both.
If I were to hazard an opinion on these vests it would be this – I would describe these as trials issue (my vest arrived Sat btw).
My reasoning for this follows comparison with standard DDPM MK3 Osprey vests. The standard vests have press studs closures on the plate flap and they have fastex buckles to the sides – where the side plate goes. These DPM versions have neither of these features.
These are my simple observations and I am not an expert on Osprey kit – so the opinions of you guys would be interesting.
I will aim to post some collection pics once I get to grips with the drill - tips anyone?

Welcome to the forum buddy! Looking forward to the pics! Mine landed Saturday also but I got a shirt rather than a vest, so I'm hoping they send me another today!

Re: DPM MK3 Ospreys
Exwoofer is quite right, on looking at the labels i noted that the DPM vest states MK III whereas DDPM and Civi Blue state MK III Modified. Just as you've said above chap all i could see was the poppers and clips. Welcome to the forum too!

Re: DPM MK3 Ospreys
That's really interesting George, are there many differences between the Mk3 and the PECOC vest? Also, did you get any collars, brassard etc. or is it purely just the vest? Been on the phone to Fieldtextiles and replacement will be with me tomorrow!!!!

Re: DPM MK3 Ospreys
Oh yes Lee the PECOC one is completely different in design, its more modelled on an assault vest with elastic down the sides and a central zip. The black rubber is interesting though in the same place. I didnt think to compare the two last night so i'll have a look when i can.
No collars or brassards i'm afraid although every popper has an elastic on them! Looks like i have something new to be hunting for...

Re: DPM MK3 Ospreys
A very early morning present, managed to get a pic just before work...
You might want to check the back pouch where the plates are as I found the brassard, collars etc albiet when looking at them now, they do not match the Osprey!!! So it might just be luck these came with the vest?!

DPM MK3 Ospreys
Already checked mine – empty lol
But I am chuffed for you Lee as I have had plenty of luck too this year so absolutely no complaints.
One example of such was picking up a 1998 dated Trials CTR Assault vest (nicely labelled by DCTA and totally pucker) for a snip - only to find a contemporary dated issue clasp knife in mint condition in one of the pockets. The knife alone is worth nearly what I paid for the vest - fab.
Looking again at the DPM MK3 vests I may revise my thinking - is it a trials issue or just an early variant MK3 ? Certainly the date of 2008 puts it in the timeline for PECOC but from the label it looks to be more of a finished article? Either way its a rareish item so well worth having.

Thats one more than i've seen! I have once seen on ebay though a dpm cover with a large blue sign sewn on to the back saying 'INTERPRETER' however never seen a picture of it in use.

DPM MK3 Ospreys
DPM MK3 in use on operational service in Kosovo 2008. This indicates that the DPM MK3 saw operational use but this could still have been part of large scale user trial (or it could suggest a UOR was placed?). Credit to Sheldon (from the parish of FB) for locating this footage - https://youtu.be/GpKYoC3bisM
A still from the vid - MK3's can be seen @1.32 and a few places after this point.
