Re: MTP PCS Smock 2
Ha ha ha touché George. Are there any other differences to the smock? I read the lining had changed? I am disappointed with label, I thought it might have said something like 'MTP WINDPROOF MK2' like the shirt...makes my hunting harder!!! I am just going on the Velcro blanks!

Re: MTP PCS Smock 2
Sorry, George, but you haven't got a Smock 2, Combat, Windproof MTP - as Lee mentioned the Smock 2 doesn't have a mesh lining, also the fleece hand warmer pockets should have zips like the Tantalus Mk2 Modified Windproof. What you have is the latest revision of the Smock , Combat, Windproof (Broad Arrow added to label, cross stitching on front touch and close fasteners) which was issued 08/02/2014 - the same time as the Smock 2.
Also the label should read:-
SMOCK 2
COMBAT, WINDPROOF,MTP
PCS,CU
NSNs for Smock, Combat, Windproof MTP, PCS, CU are 8415-99-317-3880 to 8396
NSNs for Smock 2, Combat, Windproof MTP, PCS, CU are 8415-99-396-5988 to 6004
Sorry,
Steve

Re: MTP PCS Smock 2
Found a Smock 2 on eBay but it's the best part of £50. I think I will wait until there are more in circulation!

Re: MTP PCS Smock 2
Steve, is the Smock 2 going into general circulation or will it be like the DPM MK2 which was just issued to SF? Thanks

Re: MTP PCS Smock 2
Lee,
There's nothing in the specification to say it's for SF issue only - there's RAF Blue and Navy Blue versions, which retain the NSNs of the previous smock.

Re: MTP PCS Smock 2
Thats the ticket! We've got them coming through our system now, i would try and get one but i wouldnt wear it, i either wear my issued windproof smock (gucci old school styley) or my waterproof one with the black liner, all the newbies have these though.

Re: MTP PCS Smock 2
The old style...do you mean the old Arctic Windproof in MTP? Got two of the Smock 2's, they are nice, seem to be more light weight than the old PCS ?

Re: MTP PCS Smock 2
Yes thats the one (i think) pics below, i sent it to dixies corner for the cuffs. I think you're right about the light weight, glad they got rid of that mesh!

Very nice George... Did you get it issued or was it a private buy? Only reason I ask, do the military allow alterations like the cuffs?

Re: MTP PCS Smock 2
Yes, alterations to field wear is allowed and commonplace, although less so than in the days of DPM. Most soldiers who spend time in the field (some spend their whole working lives in an office) have one or two extra items which they prefer and make changes to for this kind of thing.
For instance my son, whilst operating as a mariner wore a Highlander Softshell waterproof fleece in their MTP copy (HMTCP) with a pocket added on to the left sleeve from an aircrew survival suit which carries an emergency strobe light. (apart from mundane MEXE crew he also drives RIB's and Combat Support Boats)

Re: MTP PCS Smock 2
The windproof is still IMHO the best smock design out there for simplicity and function, when NZ wore DPM one of these was a coveted item. My BSM had me repair his one till there was patches on the patches. if only they covered the buttons. I purchased a DDPM one for my Afghan tour in 2010. If you could get a NZ MCU Il be all over it.

Re: MTP PCS Smock 2
If you contact Artkis and could lay your hands on enough cloth they'd make you one. They might be able to make you one anyway if enough of you wanted one

Sorry if the question is stupid, but what is the use of sticking tape on the buttons?

Re: MTP PCS Smock 2
There was an unissued Smock 2 On Ebay last night for £5 buy it now. As I have no interest in modern stuff or MTP I didnt buy it myself but needless to say, didnt hang around for long at that price.
