That looks legitimate to me! I have pictures of a 1982 jacket and the label looks the same. However, the 1982 model has slant pockets. The 1989 model has straight pockets. Which suggests they quickly switched away from slant pockets. I think 1993 is when they returned to slant pockets.

I would say commercial. I have a pair of trial auscam's and this one is not like it at all. material is wrong cut is wrong (trial was four pocket) and buttons are different. I could be wrong as this is not my area or expertise. it could have been a example made for the bid then the trial one came was selected over this. and a lot of commercial companies put the Australian arrow on it to look ok

This is more interesting than I thought it would be Smile I have a 1982 set and, as stated above, it is 4 pockets (pleated) with chest pockets slanted. No epaulets, pleated arm pocket on left arm with covered button.

I also have a 1989 set which is two pockets (not pleated) with straight chest pockets. It has epaulets and no arm pockets.

Gilles' jacket seems to be a bridge between the two designs. However, as James pointed out... there's some oddities:

    1. Buttons are not the style used on the 1982 uniform or from 1989 and later.
    2. Two British style exposed button arm pockets is not seen on any other Aussie uniform I have until Land 125
    3. The military tag is not centered, but instead at the center is a white wash and care tag
    4. The material is trouser type material, not the thin type consistent with every Aussie shirt from 1982 through Land 125.
    5. The size on the tag is for "WAIST", which of course should not be on a shirt collar!

I'm going to go with James' guess that this could be a speculative submission in hopes of landing a shirt contract. I'll go a little further to say that the company making the submission might have been making trousers already, therefore it had the material and labels for trousers in hand.

It would have been very illegal for a military tag to be put on a commercial item, I should think, yet it doesn't look like the label was added after the fact. So I'm inclined to think it had some sort of connection to the military even if it was ultimately rejected.

Hi. Why with all the exposed buttons would they have hidden buttons under pocket flaps? seems unusual. And I don't have any early 80's shirts but the one's I have don't have a seam across the lower shoulders. just my 2 cents worth. regards Jim.

Well, the standard production model throughout the 1990s (possibly early 2000s?) had covered button pockets on the chest and a single exposed button pocket on the left sleeve. Why? Because they're Australians and don't like to follow standard conventions? Smile Seriously, it is an odd combo for sure.
