Modified WE 37 compass case (at left) - an Israeli modification? Notice the similarity to the Israeli-made pouch at right. In any case, this is not a one-off, as I have seen these modified pouches around at various times and places over the years.

Its from the Steyr AUG rifle. NZ got the rifle in 88 and these were the supplied sling. We binned them for the SA80 sling until the rifle was replaced by the MARS-L.
