What is this type of suit called? My friends in Israel want me to bring them back a military chemical suit to put over a thin Tyvek chemical suit. I was thinking about the old MK3/MK4 charcoal ones but I didn't even know there were sets that don't leak charcoal all over. I'd love to know where to find a few of these and a product name might help me on my way. No hood though. I wonder if there's a version with a hood, cause the gap between the jacket and the shower cap thing seems to leave a gap in protection.

I found something called a lanx chem suit that looks like this. I think Lanx is the name of the type of fabric used. The cheapest one I found is about $150 - $200. The complete system uses an undergarment as well for an extra $150 - $200. Way too rich for my blood. If anybody hears of a cheap place to get one of these , I'd love to know about it.

Those are called MOPP suits. There's few different versions. Panzerwerk showed a newest one.

$100-200 is purely insane. I remember I saw the huge surplus box filled with MOPP suits in opened brown bags for about $30 each. It was few years ago when I visited VA. If I recall correctly, they all are woodland, same ones Marines used during invasion of Iraq.

    Hi guys.

While still often called MOPP suits for simplicities sake, these are actually what is known as JLIST. It was the older MOPP that had the charcoal lining, these don't. I hated the charcoal in the older version. Took months it felt like, to get it out of the pores after Desert Storm. Between the grime and funk, mixed with the charcoal, my uniform underneath was so far gone, that many of us just burned them the first chance we had, after the hostilities ended.

Also, the JLIST is more popular over the older system, with the use of the what we used to call "wet weather" boots, aka the rubber overshoes. The older style was a nightmare to put on and wear with all the laces and awkward fit.

Some good info on the JLIST here to compliment what Merc posted with the diagram:
    http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/jslist.htm

I will caveat that the old mopp suits were well liked in the winter. When the charcoal lining had been removed, or just worn out, they were used for training purposes. And as a great layer of warmth in the winter!

Okay, I have a question. I read the book "Shooter" about USMC sniper in Iraq during the invasion. Marines used term "MOPP" when they referred to their suits. So I wonder if this term "MOPP" is general, not specific suit like JLIST is part of MOPP system?

    Thanks.

MOPP simply means Mission Oriented Protective Posture. As I said above, it is still commonly called "MOPP suit" for simplicities sake, even though it is a JLIST suit. Part of that simplicity, which carries over from the old style suit, is that there are 4 levels of "MOPP", each one having a certain amount of your NBC gear on, or standing bye for use. When in MOPP 4, you have everything on, as depicted in the diagram you posted earlier. Mask, JLIST, booties, gloves, M9 paper, helmet cover, etc.. Hope this helps.

The military and its day to day lingo, and procedures can be confusing to those who are outside looking in! Laughing

Ok thanks! I must've missed it. I was reading quickly.

Now it is the time for me to buy JLIST supplies. I want to have a MOPP 4 mannequin! Do you know any place where I would be able to find those gear for cheap?

I should've clarified at the first place. I meant accessories like boots, gloves, gas mask, hood, etc.... Not just a set of jacket and pants. Embarassed
