Modded Night Desert ? Commercial BDU

Really not sure what to think of this set , Commercial Night Desert BDU I
got for $20 shipped , lots of wear/fading , I was about to offer this
up on the board when i noticed it has field modified pockets ! only on
the jacket , and all are different , one has buttons removed 2 have both
buttons and velcro , one had velcro and buttons , but the velcro was
removed , its all hand sewn , no machine work , let me know what you
guys think .
BTW no sign of tapes or patches ever sewn on , but I
would not think this would be unusual for something thats supposed to
help defeat 1st gen night vision .

I know all the modern combat uniforms use velcro now, but using it for a specifically night uniform doesn't make sense as the sound of velcro opening/closing at night sticks out like the proverbial dogs bollocks. It could also possibly be some airsofter's 'cool' daytime outfit.

Maybe , except there is nothing cool about it , the sewing is very crude , and the velcro is very badly cut and placed , most Airsofters would do a better job , and make it look professionally done , I would also bet a Airsofter would have moved the pockets and removed all the buttons as well .

Tags are all washed out , but fits like a Large Regular , or Short , I dont know guys , I am just speculating , Billy Bob could have done this in the back woods hunting deer for all I know .

Yes it`s possible but who knows...Maybe it`s just someones "cool garment" to go outdoors and the modification is just patterned after the ACU or other uniform that uses the velcro closure..I think We will never know for sure about this set. Until someone finds a pics which confirm that those set were acctualy "field worn" by any troops. Too bad that`s Large reg. I`m looking for this but in my size Med reg- just as a good set to wear.Are they somewhere on ebay?

Yhea they come up on ebay from time to time .

Wrote the guy I bought them from , he said they came in with a group of paint ball items , so that answers that !!!!

Seriously: do we know photographic evidence of wearing commercial night desert BDUs by soldiers? Or is that just a rumour?

Many years ago I saw a night desert set (regular overparka+overtrouers) together with a boonie hat (also in desert night pattern) on a local flea market. I didn't buy them as they were too expensive (at least that time). However then I thought the desert night boonie hat is part of the set. Later I was informed by US collectors, such a garment never existed officially. Do you think it's possible that uniform-set came from a GI, who used the commercial boonie?

Another question: I do have a pair of "choco chip" trousers, with 1990 DLA number, made by Propper. However it lacks the reinforcements (seat- and knee-reinforcements). Is that a clear sign that the item is commercial? Why the DLA-number then? Just to mis-inform the customer? Or?

Not commercial. Late DBDUs don't have reinforcements.

Really? But why? On the 3 colour DPCU trousers the reinforcements are present again. Then why not on the late "choco chip" items?

I guess it depends on fabric. I don't know... NYCO twill DCUs also don't have reinforcements...
