    Luftwaffe tropentarn ???

Post by Tophe on Sun Oct 09, 2011 9:54 am

Come from Arizona, supposed to be a trial desert/arid pattern used by Luftwaffe in survival training in the US around 2005 :

The outer part seems to have been haevily fadded by sun. t's greener on the inner face :

Based on flecktarn with less and smaller dots of brown and black.
Somebody knows more about this ?

Never seen this camo before. But the cut is not German fashion. My guess: commercial.

I'm pretty sure I have one of these somewhere that I wore around. It's a knockoff of a US Vietnam boonie hat. Chinese made is my guess.

The real boonies have three brass wire vents on each side of the head, a plastic chin strap adjustment, and brass snaps to pin the brim up to the side of the head. No bullet band. The cloth is the same as the shirt IIRC.

Is it possible that someone from the Bundeswehr wore this in Arizona during training? Sure, anything is possible. Maybe the guy couldn't get a genuine issue boonie for some reason before leaving for the US. Stuff like this happens. However, that doesn't change what the item is or isn't. And without proof that a member of the BW owned and wore this, it's just as likely to be a story someone cooked up to make the hat seem more valuable.

Like CollectinSteve said that is a commercial boonie in a very bad flecktarn colloration. Sturm-MilTec as one that looks similar to that. When to much exposed to sun the colors start to fade like that one. One of my airsoft team mates have one. Horrible, just horrible!
