I know the Army had tested the CCU in various patterns. This example is void of any.

The guy I got it from told me the same story! There are no mfg tags, except for the size. Thanks!

Cool indeed!!! This one looks like a near final CCU sample.

Here are some pics of an earlier sample that I promised weeks ago to upload. This is as good a place as any to do that Smile

Note the pocket style and orientation. It also has an integrated recovery strap in back, so this might have been a prototype for vehicle crews or (more likely IMHO) they were exploring this as a possibility for the standard uniform. The strap feeds down through the inside back and pops out at the waist so the combat belt can be fed through it. That way when you yank on the handle at the shoulders you're in fact pulling the soldier by his belt. This would allow a soldier to drag a fallen buddy, in any orientation, out of harms way quickly. I suspect it wasn't adopted because for this to work the straps have to be very strong. Strong means thick and stiff. Likely very uncomfortable for everyday soldier use.

Other than the pockets, recovery strap, and velcro only front closure, the rest of it is remarkably like the CCU pictured above.

I think Steps.inc ( who made the T-Patt USMC urban camo)made the rear strap jacket. It's featured on the website under uniforms.

Also as for the rear strap, it's fine and good idea however they didn't think the soldier would also be sporting body armor Laughing

If your gonna pull your buddy out of a fire fight you can't ask them to remove the vest 1st.
The pockets look like they were designed for fantastic 4's Mr. rubber stretch dude.

Yeah, the body armor thing kills off a lot of otherwise great uniform innovations!

Do you have a link to Steps, Inc? I'd like to check out that pic for comparison.

CollectinSteve, your example appears to be made from some sort of ripstop material? Do you have tags on your sanple? Mine seems to be made of nylon? The jacket incorporates both CCU and CU features but the tag says CCU. I have the pants if anyone wants to see them. Thanks for the compliments!!!!

There's just a size tag in it and yes I believe the cloth has some poly in it.

BTW, I got this off of a guy who used to have excellent contacts with Natick Labs (we're both fairly local to there). I sure wish he still had his fingers in that pie Smile

Yes, I am sure that was the intent. It's a feature common on armored fighting vehicle uniforms. The early Austrian KAZ57 jacket (normal infantry) had this feature as well. Probably because it provides a good way to drag a wounded comrade out of harm's way. However, they must be very uncomfortable under body armor! And what good does this do when under body armor?
