Vietnam M1 Helmet, with blood splatter on it?

I recently picked up this helmet from an eBay dealer who brought it at an estate sale. The seller told me he brought the helmet from the vets daughter and that her dad had brought it home from Vietnam. He didn't get any other info The name "Cummings" is written on the band. The steal shell and liner are WWII vintage. On the left side there's what I think is some blood splatter on it? It's not rust bleed through. Hopfully my photobucket img's load, and I am doing this correctly.

There is only one way to know for sure , there are forensic kits for testing of blood , or sample for DNA testing , I have seen on TV similar things where they thought they had blood on clothing items and it turned out not to be , you cant tell just by looking at it , it could be taco bell hot sauce for all I know ....

Or splashes of water that passed through some metal that was oxidated. I've seen that happen.

Looking at it again, it's definitely taco bell hot sauce.

The stuff the CSI type shows use is called 'Luminol' - reacts with the iron in blood and glows. Apparently there are ways of making it yourself but not recommended.

Blood stains tend to turn black over time
