Collecting Canadian kit??

Hi lads quick question for ye.Can you tell me if there are any restrictions on purchasing or owning Canadian forces kit.I am interesting in starting a CADPAT collection but i am unsure where to start or if it's kosher.
Advice please.Thanks.

From what I gather - yes it's illegal - if you're Canadian. That should sum it up.

I think it is the same with other government controlled uniform systems, like your own Irish, it is illegal to buy, sell or own, if you are a citizen of that country, but not to outsiders.

That, admittedly, is the very short and unreflected answer, I'm sure one could find all kinds of shades of grey on this subject...

Owning CADPAT uniforms in Canada is not illegal. CADPAT items are controlled within the CF but those items that are sold through surplus stores and have been legally released through the disposal system are not illegal to own in Canada by Canadians.

If I were you, I would collect the pre-CADPAT Canadian OG107 Combats. There is more of it avialable on the market, it is cheaper than CADPAT and there are many more varieties and patterns to collect as it was in service from 1964 until 2000ish.

Cheers for the responses guys.Should I decide to go ahead with my CADPAT collection where is the best place to start?There seems to be a lot of "CADPAT" items being sold in Canadian online surplus stores but some of the items appear to be copies, not genuine issue.

Trust me, you will be hard pressed to find any websites in Canada selling legit issue CADPAT.
