British WWII Helmet

Hi,
This is a British (1940) helmet I have, and I put the net on it recently. My question is, is the net something that would have been worn in WWII? Thanks.

Ripcord,your helmet or at least the liner is South African and not British.

There's certainly plenty of photos showing helmet nets used on helmets in WW2 .............

Thanks for the clarification. I am no helmet expert, and I welcome any constructive info.

This helmet was given to me about 30 years ago by the father of a friend.

He was a French military pilot who flew cargo and men into Dien Bien Phu. That much is true.

He claimed the helmet was used there, but I always suspected his recollection may have been flawed.

I know these types of helmets were used by many different nations,including the French.

As my knowledge of these types of helmets is very limited, I tend to think of them as of British origin.

No such thing as an expert Ripcord but there are many who will tell you they are

Pretty sure its an SA liner,reason I say that is unlike the British round top/bump pads which were made of a rexene covered sorbo type rubber,the SA ones were made of a felt material.

Also I gather that most if not SA made shells have(I think) 3 small holes at the rear-the theory is for some form of neck/sun shade.
