Moroccan lizard jacket?

I have a strong feeling that this is copy as the tag says "100 percent cotton,made in china." Any thoughts?

Is this is the one from Sportsman's Guide? I suspect it to be, as I just ordered one myself and the colours and tag are an exact match to yours.

I believe these are just some commercial repros done in lizard pattern. It's pretty well-made and comfy to wear, but I don't think it's anything that was legitimately issued.

The legit type is indeed made in China, but it doesn't have a "made in china" tag in it. The SG stuff could be contractor overrun.

Is the cloth smooth or HBT? If it's smooth then it's pure commercial production, but probably still coming from the factory making legitimate Moroccan stuff. One thing people sometimes don't understand is how difficult and expensive it is to setup a production line for a particular cut of uniform. It's why pretty much all the mass produced stuff out there is BDU or ACU. Factories tooled for a particular style go with what they have!

HBT = Herring Bone Twill. HBT can be very smooth, but the cloth is always easy to identify. Just look at the cloth itself and see if there are opposing diagonals in the weave. Like this:



The Moroccan contract cloth is HBT. If yours is not, then it's likely made by the same contractor but without original cloth.

Sweet! Then the obvious explanation seems to be the most likely case. These were probably contract overruns or the factory making items on the side for their own profit. Either way, you got a nice jacket for a good price.
