Were there different types of these, variations etc during their life?

For example, did any have a Green collar as opposed to tge Dark Grey,French Cuffs,Belt or no Belt at the rear etc?

    Many Thanks

I have two, one has the dark grey-green collar and the other has a collar made of the same grey fabric as the rest of the coat. Both have the two button tab at the rear, no attachment area for a belt though. They are sadly in storage, so I can't provide photos. I believe there were variants for officers and the other enlisted men and NCOs. They probably underwent cosmetic changes throughout the years as uniforms evolved as well.

Thanks Ben,sorry, should have been clearer when I said belt, meant the small belt at the rear.

Reasons for asking was have recently bought 2(no idea why in all honesty) and the 1st one after a nasty dispute with Ebay was returned as the description stated a few marks which I could have lived with-when it turned up it looked like a tea bag as had so much moth damage and other wear to it.

The one I returned, not sure if it was some early form of WW2 film prop as it had WW2 type buttons and a Green collar(like the WW2 ones) that looked if a conversion very professionally done and it had the small rear belt.

The one that has just arrived has the std dark grey collar but no rear belt and cannot see traces of it being removed either?

    Many Thanks.

For the NVA I think there is only one type, and it has a dark collar. However, there are different levels of quality. Not sure if the differences are age or rank, probably both. I've got one that is made of a very rough, extremely poor quality wool like material and others that are made from a very smooth highly synthetic material (dunno if there is wool in there at all).

The ones with green collars were for the Grenztruppen (border guard), so that might have been what you got originally.

Thank you. I should have taken pics of the damaged one with the Bottle Green collar before I sent it back.

If I had the green collar, it may be that it were a hack or an original WW2.
From what I have seen and including I have, until December 1986, all coats had neck black, including the Grenztruppen and the Stasi.
The exception is Luftstreitkräfte, who had gray necks.
