Sleeping bag carrying straps Empty Sleeping bag carrying straps

Post by Glencoe Sun Jan 21, 2018 8:19 am

While looking around the photo database of the MvD I came around this photo. I'm trying to find out how the sleeping kit of a soldier would be carried in the field.

The straps look a lot like some Uzi-straps i've got a few of. These are essentially +-1 meter black webbing straps with two blackened loose sliding buckles.

I would be interested in knowing how this all worked and how it would be attached to a soldiers webbing.

This is a question that has come up before on another thread, and we didn't solve it yet. I have studied this photograph closely a few times recently, but I had never considered the Uzi sling. It does seem likely that the front hooks of the pack straps are somehow involved.

I don't quite think the Uzi slings would be used after all. The straps on the sleeping bag seem smaller.

I think it might just be possible that a set of 4-bar twigg buckles (as those on the brace attachements) cwould be used. With four utility straps and two spare buckles you would be able to attach the sleepingbag to the L-straps.

It is also quite possible that the KL used the same (or similar) straps as the mariniers. As you (Wolverine) posted here
