    It's the detachable pack for the Alpenflage M70 smock/jacket, I think its an after service adaptation where they've removed the side rifle grenade pockets and used the material from those to make the front piece and fitted a zip to make it into a sort of vest type daysack. I picked one up from a surplus website. Very well made in regards to the tailoring put into it, the various loops on the front are made using what was the waist belt in its original form

    Much more usable and effective than the adaptation with German webbing suspenders in that you can actually use it as it sits where it should and not around ones ankles.

    That is a very clever adaptation!! The backpacks on their own are useless and only an insane person would use one attached to the jacket. Because, let's face it, this is not a comfortable uniform to wear!

    I have 2, maybe three, that are attached to jackets in the way they were designed and another I've sewn onto a jacket because I'm an extra level of not all there, and then one that's as pictured in the original post, but the one I bought has been done with a red zipper down the front.
