Looks like a North Mfg Rhodesian vest, I had the exact same one in my collection ca. 1985. I do know that Fereday at least, still manufactured fire force vests in zimbabwe in to the mid 80s at least. A nice item and a good price.

    Hi Steve,

Chris is right, that is a genuine North manufactured Fireforce vest. That South Africa sticker is an add-on though, as the North vests were made in Rhodesia. I've got a photo of the tag in mine on my computer here somewhere. I'll have to dig that out.

Awesome find, and an even better price! Shocked

    Cheers,

    Mike

GREAT piece, Steve! The Rhodesians and South Africans were ahead of their time with these type vests. All of the current vests used around the world can trace their roots back to Southern Africa. Combat tested and combat proven.

Arch hit this right on the money. The Rhodesisans really proved themselves during the Bush Wars and acted as more of a modern force in regards to their tactics as well as their equipment. The Selous Scouts were the progenitor of the modern elite Counterinsurgency units.

I just love Rhodesian items, they are pretty rare. And I have never seen a vest like that up for sale. People hang on to em

The South Africans didn't do too bad of a job I may add. Laughing

Nice vest, Steve! I misread the post and thought it said $15... I was about to say, you may as well have stolen the vest for that price!

And other than the one set I saw for a kazillion dollars on eBay, all are in the hands of people on this forum. All within the same "family" I guess, so at least that's good. Laughing

As I recall, the North mfg label was green lettering on white, with a compass rose incorporated into the logo. A bit nicer than the fereday vests in my opinion.
